This Chinese man (Mr. Tan) hopes to gain his way into the Guinness Book of World Records after creating what he believes is the world's largest working mobile phone. The 3-foot phone weighs (48) pounds and must be plugged in. Mr. Tan has not managed to build a big enough battery. Apparently, Mr. Tan has alot of time on his hands.

In 2003, Richard Rodriquez, a university professor from Chicago, set a world record by completing more than (70) hours on one of Europe's steepest roller coasters. The 42 year-old defeated the previous record of 35.5 hours, traveling on the Expedition GeForce Train at Germany's Holiday Park. He was allowed (15) minute breaks every (8) hours. Doctors accompanied him on the (75) mile per hour, (203) foot high ride.

In one family's Kansas City, Missouri, neighborhood, it is illegal to shoot fireworks, so the neighbors called the authorities when one family decided to celebrate the 4th of July with explosives. When the police arrived, one individual decided to hide the fireworks in the oven where they were quickly forgotten. Later the next day, the oven was turned on to prepare dinner - you can imagine what happened next. The kitchen was blown to pieces! The walls were blown out and the oven was propelled through one of the walls. Flying glass caused some minor injuries, but thankfully no one was seriously injured! Charges were not filed since the police thought the injuries lesson alone. Another good reason to leave the fireworks to professionals!

A southern Illinois pilot says he has designed a new way to let people who want to be cremated, spread their ashes. John Whitney, Sr. is offering to take the ashes up in his airplane and spread them from a height of 2,500 feet above where the deceased chooses. Whitney says the system he has designed makes sure that the ashes are pushed out into the wind and don't end up on the plane or inside it.

Workers at a Virginia landfill were surprised by what they found in a large trash bin from a Goodwill Industries store: A 48 year-old woman who had gotten trapped inside. They opened the door to the trash bin and there she was. She had apparently crawled inside the trash bin at the Goodwill Industries store, could not get out, and fell asleep. A truck picked up the trash bin at the store and hauled it, along with the unwitting passenger, to the landfill.






"Body Worlds" - a traveling exhibit now on tour in New York at the Buffalo Museum of Science features actual human corpses with skin removed and insides exposed. The bodies are preserved by a process that replaces the body's fluids and tissue with plastic. Organizers indicate more than 10,000 people are now registered to become "plastanates" after death.

On this date in 1925, the Scopes "Monkey Trial" was organized in Dayton, TN. The trial actually began July 10th. John Scopes was
tried for teaching evolution to his students. Though William Jennings Bryan, acting as prosecuting attorney, won the courtroom battle, creationists lost where public opinion was concerned. The fight is on to give creationism fair and equal attention in our public schools today.

The results are in ... Joy In The Morning's eating hero, 25 year-old Joey Chestnut has been declared the official winner in the Nathan's Famous 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island, N.Y. Joey chomped down (68) hot dogs in (10) minutes!









This is all that is left of her IPOD. God and an IPOD saved the life of 14 year-old Sophie Frost when she was struck recently by a 300,000 volt bolt of lightening. Researchers say the electricity was diverted away from her vital organs by the IPOD - the headphones were hanging from her body as she stood underneath a tree with a friend. They both were knocked unconscious and suffered only minor burns as evidenced by her clothing in the picture. Nevertheless, they both lived to tell the story.

As if we are looking for more ways to make cell phones more irritating, right?

Several listeners (fellow cat enthusiasts, like me - Howard) have requested more of my "adorable cat pictures." More are forthcoming (I promise). Here are my delightful "rug rats" (Maxwell Monroe & Jasmine Joelle) in their bed after a long day of hard work & play! These white Persian "fur balls" are both (11) years of age - twins - born on Valentine's Day. My wife, Dana, and I acquired them (5) years ago from a Christian couple who moved to China to be missionaries. Maxwell is the more vocal of the (2) and enjoys being in charge of the staff (that would be my wife and me). Jasmine is timid (the runt of the litter) and is much more cautious.

Wacky But True: The 7 a.m. "Wacky But True" story featured these new "Smart Goggles" designed by scientists at the University of Tokyo. They have a built-in camera, computer, and display screen. You put them on and wander around looking at various things you might want to find later, saying the names out loud. For instance, if you misplace your keys, you put on the "Smart Gogges" and say the name "keys." The goggles recall the last time they saw them and show you where they were. But what happens when you can't remember where you put your goggles? This is technology, the benefits of which, remain "to be seen."

This Montreal man hitches everything to his bike from refrigerators, stoves, mattresses, etc. He can haul just about anything with his modified bike trailer. Concerned about the environment, it is all a part of his new moving company.
