On this date in 1925, the Scopes "Monkey Trial" was organized in Dayton, TN. The trial actually began July 10th. John Scopes was
tried for teaching evolution to his students. Though William Jennings Bryan, acting as prosecuting attorney, won the courtroom battle, creationists lost where public opinion was concerned. The fight is on to give creationism fair and equal attention in our public schools today.

This is all that is left of her IPOD. God and an IPOD saved the life of 14 year-old Sophie Frost when she was struck recently by a 300,000 volt bolt of lightening. Researchers say the electricity was diverted away from her vital organs by the IPOD - the headphones were hanging from her body as she stood underneath a tree with a friend. They both were knocked unconscious and suffered only minor burns as evidenced by her clothing in the picture. Nevertheless, they both lived to tell the story.

This dress by British fashion student, Georgie Davis, is designed to light-up when the wearer's mobile telephone rings. She designed the knee-length, sleeveless white dress as part of a school project with mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson to better incorporate technology into fashion. As if we are looking for more ways to make cell phones more irritating, right?

Here they are again ...

Several listeners (fellow cat enthusiasts, like me - Howard) have requested more of my "adorable cat pictures." More are forthcoming (I promise). Here are my delightful "rug rats" (Maxwell Monroe & Jasmine Joelle) in their bed after a long day of hard work & play! These white Persian "fur balls" are both (11) years of age - twins - born on Valentine's Day. My wife, Dana, and I acquired them (5) years ago from a Christian couple who moved to China to be missionaries. Maxwell is the more vocal of the (2) and enjoys being in charge of the staff (that would be my wife and me). Jasmine is timid (the runt of the litter) and is much more cautious.

Wacky But True: The 7 a.m. "Wacky But True" story featured these new "Smart Goggles" designed by scientists at the University of Tokyo. They have a built-in camera, computer, and display screen. You put them on and wander around looking at various things you might want to find later, saying the names out loud. For instance, if you misplace your keys, you put on the "Smart Gogges" and say the name "keys." The goggles recall the last time they saw them and show you where they were. But what happens when you can't remember where you put your goggles? This is technology, the benefits of which, remain "to be seen."
